Just Like That, I am Back

Image
If I said I was back, would you believe me? Blogging is complicated, and there are so many "get rich quick" blogging schemes that make it look like you are a lost cause if you are not currently earning money blogging. And why are you even blogging if you don't have multiple streams of income and entertainment. If you don't have a brand? I do have this website, but I do not have Instagram, Twitter, TikTok (you don't want to see me dance), or whatever is next.  Heck, I haven't even updated this since before the pandemic. So why am I here, writing about being back and then, probably ghosting for another two years? Life has been rough. It's been painful and overwhelming. I am so thankful for you my readers, or what is left of you. I am so thankful you are reading this post. I am so thankful that you are still committed to making the world a more exciting and more sustainable place.  Keep up-cycling my friends, and you never know, I might be back again with an

Spring Break Time

Image
What can I say we had a fabulous Easter... And I will be taking the good part of the next week to enjoy a fabulous Spring Break with the family. Don't worry Upcycled Awesome will be up and running but the regular updates will be on pause....We all need a break every once in a while.

Happy Easter - Make Your Own Easter Egg Dye

Image
Today we dyed eggs and had a blast doing it. Being the slacker mom I am I forgot to buy Easter egg dye. I mean I hate those little pellets, and I knew I could find a better way to do eggs this year. Happy Easter! Make your own environmentally friendly and inexpensive egg dye: Mix: 2 teaspoons white vinegar 1/2 cup boiling water Food dye. I use gell dye and just kind of put a big old glop in but if you are using liquid food coloring twenty - thirty drops is a good amount. Now dye those eggs. It didn't come out as a smooth singular color like the tablets that you buy, but I like the look, I had everything on hand, and there was no packaging to discard afterwards! Have a great eco-friendly Easter.

Congratulations Spring Stashbusters

Can you believe it! It is Earthday and you can now shop for crafting supplies to your hearts content. I know that you probably won't want to do that though. You put an amazing dent in your stash, got organized, finished a bunch of half started projects, and generally rocked it! I am so proud of each and everyone of you! I know how hard not shopping for craft supplies has been for me, and darn it I even had to resist a going out of business sale at JoAnn Fabrics to survive (things got down to 80% and I couldn't even step in the door, painful). I am going to put together a bunch of roundups but I want to give a HUGE thank you to the guest bloggers who assisted me this month in inspiring you to craft away. They were amazing weren't they!

Image
I am so excited for this post! I love upcycling and Becky from Becky's craft closet takes three old shirts and makes them a beautiful boys hoodie! Thank you Becky so much for sharing! Hello everyone,  I am Becky from Becky's Craft Closet .      This is a blog I started a couple of years ago, to share ideas with friends near and far. also to kind of catalog all of my projects. I love to Create. Its like Therapy for me not to mention it is just kind of second nature to me. I grew up in a crafty home, and never knew there were people who didn't do this kinda stuff. lol. I don't think I am the most creative person out there, but I love to break things down and simplify them for someone who might think its just too complicated. What made you decide to sign up for the Spring Stashbust? Hahaha, A picture is worth a thousand words, and well....there are probably like a thousand projects I could do with all this stuff.   I love pretty fabrics, and I can't help it when

Spring Stashbust Roundup #1

We are coming on the home stretch and yes I still have a lot of stash to bust, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, or at least the top of my sewing station. I wanted to give you a few ideas for that last minute stash that you are in desperate need of busting before the challenge is over. Sassy Style is offering a tutorial on this adorable Spring Specimen Art . So if you have a naked frame that needs sprucing up just turn it into this: Spring Specimen Art And for those little scraps of fabric why not join Bear, Dolly and Moi in making a bunch of Doll Diapers: Love a Good Diapered Dolly The Chameleon Girls are offering a tutorial I really need to take advantage of. They created these adorable felted eggs . I LOVE felting, but alas more craft supplies to buy that I probably will just end up no using so if you have some felting materials join them in making these! Felted Eggs with the Chameleon Girls Domestic Deadline makes me want to go out and buy

Cleveland Does Rock, and Yes I Said Cleveland

Image
I would like to take a moment from my regularly scheduled Spring Sashbusting post to talk about something near and dear to my heart. We get a bad wrap. A very bad wrap, I mean LeBron doesn't even like us. So since I truly do believe Cleveland is great I wanted to focus on some fabulous Cleveland Bloggers.  Oh yeah we rule the Blogging world one fantastic Mommy Blog at a time. My first shout out to Cleveland Blogging Love is MyGotFam.com So I like to think that I am funny, but really the only other people who agree with me are my kids, and on occasion my husband.  Chrissy is a sharp blogger with a passion for her family and an amazing series that will make you die laughing called the Sunday Skit. Seriously check this one out where the part of Chrissy is played by Glee's Chris Colfer: http://www.mygotfam.com/?p=904 Sunday Skit: How Mommy Turns Into A Lunatic . Next is Green Dog Wine . She lost fifty pounds, got healthy, and has a ton of beautiful pictures of food

Nancy's Couture Presents the Upcycled Picnic Skirt

Image
The two things I am in love with right now are skirts and well all things Couture. So I am very happy to present you with Nancy from Nancy's Couture and her tutorial on the Picnic Skirt from a button down shirt. Here is Nancy: Here is the shirt that she started with: I know you want to see what she made, but first a little more about Nancy: #1. I signed up for Spring destash because it's time to use up some of the fabric I have had around for a few years now. I have been eyeing some new fabrics but I really don't have room to store anymore fabric until I use up some of what I have. I also like a good challenge and I believe this will make me be even more creative!   #2. My favorite upcycling projects are using t-shirts to make dress for my little girl. I love that every single dress is completely unique.  And you can whip one up in less than an hour. I also being able to take something that doesn't fit my kids any more and altering it to make it

A Day In The Life of a PTA Mom

Image
Taking a break from being a mommy blogger and crafter extraordinaire (I flatter myself, heck it's my blog) to spend a little time at the Ohio PTA convention. Oh the life and times of a PTA mom, how I NEVER in my wildest dreams thought I would be one. Heck I never thought I would ever get married and have kids, but here I am, hanging out at a PTA convention and taking it all in. The one thing I took away from the weekend (aside from a few extra pounds thanks to Fado in Easton and Black Olive in the Short North) was that I have consciously made the decision to pretty much give up my nine to five (who am I kidding six am until seven pm) work life to raise my kids, and wow am I lucky. Now I am not starting some crazy argument about stay at home moms versus working moms. Whatever works for you is awesome, a valid choice, and I have been on both ends of the argument. I am just saying that for my life giving up my career and being mommy really works for me and I shockingly really

Welcome Melissa from Hooked on Handmade

Image
Allow me to introduce my lovely crafty blogging friend Melissa and her trusty sidekick Kade from Hooked on Handmade: I am not quite sure if it is the stripy shirt or the glasses, but I think we look like long lost sisters? Anyway she about to embark on another challenge and it's called a square a day in May. Check out more information here: Today she will be sharing her tutorial for her "Bee in Love Mason Jar." Ironically my daughter is obsessed with bee's right now. (maybe we really are sisters?) 1. What made you decide to sign up for the Spring Stashbust? Two reasons. My stash is in some serious need of some busting. Not only do I collect way to much yarn but I have mason coming out of everywhere! I've been working hard making squares for the CAL I'm organizing in May and my stash is going down down down! It has been great because I'm able to participate in this event while getting ready for my own event. Also, I'm new to blogging and wa
